ESUMSA inaugurates newly elected students Union leaders


Enugu State University Medical Students Association, ESUMSA, College of Medicine, Parklane, has inaugurated a new executives council for the Students’ Union Government, SUG.

Those who attended the occasion at the College premises, Parklane  weekend included  Prof. Umeh Okafor and other members of the College's top management.

The new SUG Exco was elected  following a peaceful, free and fair election that saw Rtr. Michael Uzochukwu Eze emerge as the leader of the Union.

Those inaugurated were: Rtr. Michael Uzochukwu Eze - President, Uzor Amarachukwu Rita  Uzor - Vice President, Chidubem Nnamdi  Mamah - Secretary General, Gabriel  Onah- Financial Secretary and Ambassador Obinna  Chukwu- Treasurer.

Others include  Dominic Annette Ifeoma - Assistant Secretary General, Ngwu Chibuzor - Director of Socials, Emmanuel .S. Emmanuel - Welfare officer and Okorie Chinemerem Israel - Public Relations Officer.

Speaking on the occasion,  Prof. Okafor, urged the new executive to realise that leadership was transient hence the need for the leadership to be transparent  and  dedicated to learning for excellence.

Okafor further advised the new ESUMSA leaders to represent the college very well in all ramifications, especially while interacting with sister schools.

His words,  “The primary purpose for which you are here is to understand that you are first a student and should strive to graduate, worthy in character and learning.

“Very soon many of us may be going outside interacting with sister institutions for competitions, Please always remember to represent the college very well.

“You should see this position as a stepping stone to greater leadership opportunities hence what you make of it today will make or mar your future endeavours.  Obey all the school rules and regulations, be humble, shun cultism, exhibit leadership quality and make the college a greater institution."

Delivering his inaugural speech, the new President, Rtr. Eze assured the management of the executives commitment to live up to the standard, adding that they would represent the students and school well.

Eze who described his election as a germane call to service, explained that he would focus on improving the welfare of the students, as well as fostering a synergised relationship between the Government and the College Management with a view to taking the institution to  enviable pedestal.

"We thank you for your words of advice. we will live you to the standard, abide by the college rules and represent the student well," he said.

Also, speaking the Secretary General, Chidubem Mamah commended  both the management and students for entrusting the leadership position to them, adding that a leader is always a servant.

He reiterated the new executives commitment to right the wrongs and bring the name of the college to the lime light.
