COVID-19: UNN Asks Students to Vacate Campuses Latest March 23


NSUKKA-----In line with the directive by the National Universities Commission, NUC, for universities to close for one month, the authorities of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, have ordered the students of the institution to vacate the campuses latest by March 23, 2020.

Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Charles Igwe, who gave the directive said this was part of measures to contain and prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic on campuses nationwide.

Consequently, the 46th matriculation ceremony of the university, earlier scheduled for March 28, has been postponed till further notice.

According to a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, PRO, of the institution, Dr. Okwun Omeaku, the students are to vacate the Nsukka and Enugu campuses of the university, at the aforementioned date.

The administration asked the students to keep reading their books as they stayed safe in their various homes.

Omeaku's statement read in part, "The Vice Chancelor on behalf of the Senate has directed the closure of the UNN. 

"This is in compliance with the directive for the closure of universities from March 23, 2020, by the Executive Secretary of the NUC, as part of measures to contain and prevent the spread of the coronavirus, COVID_19.

"Consequently, the UNN is hereby closed for one month with effect from March 23, 2020.

"Students are therefore, to vacate the campuses latest Monday, March 23, 2020. Keep learning while staying safe at home."
