Former governor of Rivers State and minister of Abuja Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike has criticised his predecessor and African Democratic Congress, ADC, vice presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, over the closure of courts during Amaechi’s time in office as governor.
Wike spoke during a media chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Wednesday. He was explaining issues surrounding the legal profession and the legacy of the current leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association.
The Minister also, questioned the rational in inviting Amaechi to an event, following what he described as the former governor’s actions against the Judiciary during his administration.
His words, “Rotimi Amaechi, who wants to be Vice President today, once shut down the court in Rivers State and caused a pregnant woman to give birth in prison.
His words, “I told the current NBA president why I did not support her. She went to invite a former governor of the state who chained and locked up the court for almost two years.”
Wike further used the occasion to comment on the responsibilities of politicians towards the people who support them, stressing that political success was rarely achieved by individuals alone and arguing that elected and appointed officials should remember those who contributed to their rise in positions.
“Politics is sacrifice. You cannot get to where I am today if your hands are tight. Open your hands for people. People made us to be what we are today, open your hands for them,” he added.
