U.S. Reacts To “Horrific Killing” Of Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo’s family members in Plateau

The U.S. has condemned what it described as “the horrific killing” of members of Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo’s family in Plateau State.
The US spoke in a statement by the Department of State through the Office of the Assistant Secretary of State, Bureau of African Affairs, on Friday night.
Dachomo, a pastor and rights activist is an outspoken preacher in Platea State, who particularly spoke on behalf of Christian communities that have suffered violence, especially in the Middle Belt region, as well as against the Federal Government and it's security agencies.

However, the U.S. said perpetrators of the killings “must be held accountable,” noting that “urgent action was needed to strengthen security” and protect people of faith and vulnerable communities in the country.
According to the US, continued violence targeting people based on their faith, and other vulnerable populations in the Middle Belt, was deeply  troubling and alarming.
The statement read in part, “We extend our deepest condolences to the victims’ families and all those affected.
“As discussed last week with Nigerian officials, we must do more to prevent violent acts like those of yesterday.”
The U.S. assured that it remained committed to working with the Federal Government and partners to combat terrorism and counter violent extremism, in a bid to “ensure that Christians and all Nigerians can live and practice their faith freely without fear of violence or persecution.”
