Peter Obi Says Nigeria Under Tinubu Now A Country Of Absurdities, Reality Show

Former governor of Anambra State, and presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in the 2023 elections, Peter Gregory Obi has lamented that occurrences in the country now depicy Nigeria as a country of frivolities, where anything was possible, while the political leadership watched unconcerned.

Obi described the development as an  "embarrassing spectacle."
According to him, the ruling Federal Government of the All Progressives Congress, APC, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, now prioritizes trivialities over the nation’s pressing crises, turning the country into a TV reality show.
He spoke in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), pointing out that while Nigeria grapples with extreme poverty, rising insecurity, and an education crisis, leaders remain distracted by controversies such as budget padding, sexual harassment allegations, and judicial rulings that give the impression of a TV reality show.
He emphasized lampooned the three arms of government including the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary over what he described as their failure to focus on governance but instead, preferred to display “negative power” in Osun State, a judicial ruling in Rivers State that could destabilize democracy, and the budget scandal rocking the National Assembly.
He warned that the blatant disregard for governance was a “grave disservice” to millions of suffering Nigerians just as he condemned the trend whereby politicians defect to other parties for personal gains and urged the leadership of all government arms to take urgent steps to stabilize the country.
His words, "The reckless neglect of serious governance is a betrayal of the people’s trust, Nigeria cannot afford to be governed like a reality TV show while millions suffer.”
According to Obti, there is .he need for leadership rooted in “character, competence, capacity, consistency, compassion, and urgency”—one that prioritizes education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation over political theatrics.
