The apex sociocultural organisation of all Igbo cultural associations, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has commended the Enugu State governor, Dr Peter Mbah, over the exponential growth through his disruptive innovation which had, "In fact, turned the entire Enugu State into a huge construction site."
The National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chiedozie Alex Ogbonnia, PhD spoke at the 30th year anniversary/ launching of Maru Nnwanne Civic Centre, Enugu, by the Association of Enugu State indigenous people resident in the Netherlands, at Vibe Party Centre, Transsstorstraat, 60, 1322 CG Almere, on Saturday.
Those who attended the occasion included, the traditional ruler of Edem Ani, Ogadagidi Igwe Samuel Asadu, the Chairman of the association, High Chief Jude Edeh, Dr Evelyn Azih and Chief Dennis Okeke among others.
His words, "I am not surprised that Ndi Enugu in the Netherlands are bonding together. We are a people renowned for the age long Igbo heritage of pragmatic communalism, Onye aghana nwanne ya, which you have also primed in the Netherlands as Maru Nwanne.
"And I am even more elated that you have done so for the past 30 years. So, on that note, I congratulate you on this milestone and wish you many more fruitful years ahead as a strong and viable association.
"Permit me to appreciate, the Prince of Akpakwumenze, High Chief Kevin Ezeh and his amiable wife, and other Patrons who for 30 years have been in the driver's seat of this association, Chief Denis Okeke.
"My warm felicitations to a woman of substance, an astute achiever and the President, Nigeria National Association in the Netherlands, Ugoeze Ndigbo, Dr Evelyn Azih, PhD. In fact she convinced Igwe Ogadagidi, Igwe nwere Ngabasi and myself to be part of this auspicious occasion.
"Let me also commend this association in a special way for thinking home, especially for conceiving the Maru Nwanne Civic Centre to be located in Enugu. I make bold to say that Maru Nwanne has set a very high jump for other Enugu Diaspora chapters.This is the kind of initiative that attracts the passion of His Excellency, Barr.Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, the indefatigable governor of Enugu State Once more, congratulations.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I consider it a duty, as the current Ohanaeze spokesman to inform you that a Star has emerged the South East of Nigeria . He is a man who has recalibrated governance in diverse ways. He espouses and exemplifies a creative, innovative and disruptive governance model.
"He has shown that a State government can achieve much within a space of one year. Some Journalists have named him a Magic Governor. He has leveraged his business acumen, high achievement motivation, intellectual prowess, and prudent resource management into the governance of Enugu State.
"A few examples will prove that Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah is leading the way for State administration in Nigeria.
"Mbah has pledged to migrate the Enugu State’s economy from $4.4bn to $30bn within four to eight years through private sector investment. Indeed, he also expressed the vision to make Enugu State the premier destination for investment, business, tourism, and living as well as achieve zero per cent poverty headcount index, among others.
"Although many had their doubts, but today, the earmarked have become the eyemarked. For instance: The security situation in Enugu has dramatically improved under the Mbah Administration; starting with the banning of the obnoxious Monday Sit at Home.
"In August 2023, he launched the Distress Response Squad, DRS, a specialised police unit, for combatting crime with over 100 vehicles which are equipped with sophisticated cameras.
"Others include 500 communication radios, AI enabled sophisticated CCTV camera networks, etc. The current security ambience of the State under governor Mbah makes Enugu the holiday destination for the people of the South East of Nigeria.
"Therefore, while coming home during the Yuletide, please be very confident that there is a paradigm shift in security of lives and property in Enugu State.
"On Education, Governor Mbah has embarked on the construction of 260 Smart Green Schools across the 260 wards in Enugu State in line with his inclusive development model where no part of the state is left behind. The Mbah Smart Green school is the first of its kind in our clime.
"The government is currently constructing eight Science, Technical, and Vocational, STV, schools across Enugu State, starting from the Government Technical College, GTC, Enugu. This is to augment the Smart School System. In Enugu State Mbah has, in a disruptive grand style, introduced an Experiential Model of learning that will displace the outmoded colonial memorization model.
"On Health: There is an ongoing construction of 260 Type II Primary Health Centre in each of the 260 wards in the state. The State has equally flagged off the completion of the Enugu International Hospital on Rangers Avenue at Independence Layout, Enugu.
"The government has re-equipped and commissioned three Type 3 Primary Health Centres at Adani in Uzo Uwani Local Government Area; Agbogugu in Awgu LGA; and Nara, Nkanu East LGA. The School of Nursing Parklane, Enugu is now upgraded to a College of Nursing, also the School of Nursing, Awgu is now accredited as a College of Nursing.
"On Road infrastructure, Dr. Mbah promised to build 10,000km of roads in four to eight years. As of now, about 200 urban and 20 gateway roads, covering all the three senatorial zones of the state are covered in the ongoing exercise. The 43.7km Penoks-Abakpa Nike-Ugwogo-Nike-Opi Nsukka Road with streetlights is also captured in the 2025 budget estimates.
"On Transportation, the administration is currently investing massively in transport and logistics infrastructure. It is not only building modern terminals, It has almost completed the four ultra-modern transport terminals at Holy Ghost, Abakpa, Gariki, and Nsukka. They are all billed to be commissioned before the end of the year.
"Ladies and gentlemen, launching of the Enugu Air, an Airline that will compete favourably with other Airlines in Nigeria will take place soon. In addition over 150 dual fuel (Diesel and CNG), high capacity urban mass transit buses will soon be launched.
"Similarly, the long-abandoned Enugu International Conference Centre (ICC), has taken a new shape with a 300 room 5-star hotel. The long abandoned Presidential Hotel, Enugu is almost completed. The Flour Mills, Enugu; the Niger Gas, Emene; the Niger Steel, Emene and indeed all those revenue resource facilities that were long moribund are receiving attention.
"Interestingly, all those relaxation parks, such as Ngwo Park, Nnaji Park, Ejindu Park are wearing new looks. I can go on and on. The bottom line is that Enugu is on the trajectory of exponential growth through disruptive innovation.
"In fact, the entire Enugu State has turned into a huge construction site. We can only continue to pray and support the government. However, and even more important, I enjoin you to come home and invest or bring investors home. This is a business-friendly administration that is ready to de-risk investments to make the state boom economically.
"Going by what is going on in Enugu State, I stand on a firm wicket to announce that an irrepressible Star has emerged in the South East of Nigeria, in the person of Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah. I wish you all a happy Christmas and a prosperous new year."
