The Vice Chancellor of Paul University, Awka, Anambra State, has announced the death of the husband of its Deputy Vice Chancellor, Dr Eric Okunna.
The Vice Chancellor of Paul University, Awka, Anambra State, has announced the death of the husband of its Deputy Vice Chancellor, Dr Eric Okunna.
He was the husband of the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, Prof Stella Chinyere Okunna.
Dr Eric, a medical doctor, founder and medical director of RISTELA Hospital & Maternity, Enugu, died on October 8, 2026, according to a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, PRO, of the University, Rev. Godsplan Onukwufor,
titled, "Another Sad News."
Onukwufor's statement read, "With deep sorrow and total submission to the will of God Almighty, the Management of Paul University, Awka, announces the death of Dr. Eric Okunna, beloved husband of our Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna, and the brother of Prof Emma Okunna (Provost College of Post Graduate studies)
"Dr. Eric Okunna, the Founder and Medical Director of RISTELA Hospital & Maternity, Enugu, was the cherished husband of her youth, with whom she was growing old together in love and grace. He transited to glory today, 8th October, 2026.
"This is indeed another great loss to the University community, coming shortly after we lost the husband of our DVC Administration - Prof Nkechi Ikediugwu.
"Dr. Eric Okunna was a renowned medical practitioner, a father figure, and a great support to our DVC Academics.
"The Ag. Vice-Chancellor, Ven. Prof. Obiora Nwosu , on behalf of the Governing Council, Senate, Management, Staff and Students, deeply condoles with our dear DVC Academics, Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna, her children, and the entire Okunna family especially our own Prof Emma Okunna (Provost College of Post Graduate Studies)
"We pray that God in His infinite mercies will comfort them, grant them the strength and fortitude to bear this painful and irreparable loss, and grant the soul of Dr. Eric Okunna eternal rest in His bosom. Burial arrangements will be announced in due course by the family."
