Death Toll Rises To 3,535 In Venezuela Earthquake
The death toll from the twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24, 2026, has risen to 3,535, according to updated official figures released on Monday.
Although the Venezuelan government has not released an official figure for those unaccounted for beneath the rubble, entire neighbourhoods were flattened by the earthquakes, with thousands of people still believed to be missing.
With hopes of finding more survivors fading, emergency operations have shifted towards recovering bodies and clearing debris. International search and rescue teams have also begun withdrawing from the country, even as
families continue to search for missing relatives in the hope of recovering their remains for burial.
On Sunday, authorities began burying dozens of unidentified victims in a mass grave at La Esperanza cemetery in La Guaira.
A row of simple white crosses, each adorned with a small bouquet of flowers and bearing the date "24 June 2026", marked the individual graves of the unidentified victims.
