First Lady of Cross River State, Bishop Mrs. Eyoanwan Otu, has encouraged parents to actively support their childrens' participation in the Calabar Children's Carnival, emphasizing its positive impact on the mental acuity of the participants.
Speaking at the flag-off of this year's Children's Carnival dry run on Sunday afternoon in Calabar, Bishop Mrs. Otu emphasized the importance of viewing the event as a platform for children to not only maintain physical fitness but also enhance their mental alertness.
She was represented on the occasion by the wife of the chairman of Calabar South Local Government Council, Prof. Mrs. Esther Okon Archibong.
She highlighted the strategic timing of the carnival, coinciding with the festive season, providing an ideal opportunity for children to engage in enjoyable activities, forge friendships, and create lasting memories with their peers.
She  further lauded the participating bands for their innovative displays, characterized by captivating costumes and designs, which consistently draw a large audience eager to witness the annual spectacle unfold. Past experiences have shown that children who engage in the carnival cherish the memories created and eagerly anticipate the next edition.
The main children's carnival for the 2024 Calabar Carnival holds on December 27th, while the adult carnival, recognized as Africa’s biggest street party, takes place on December 28th.
