Bandits taking advantage of bad roads to kidnap Nigerians – Sultan
Sultan of Sokoto and NSCIA President General, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, expresses concerns over Nigeria’s deteriorating road infrastructure, noting its role in enabling bandit and kidnapper activities. His remarks were made during the flag-off ceremony for the 1068-km Badagry-Sokoto Super Highway.
President General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar 111 has decried that the deplorable states of roads across the country, noting that the poor state of the roads were aiding activities of bandits and kidnappers.
The Sultan spoke at Illela Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Thursday during the flag- off ceremony of the 1068 kilometres Badagrey - Sokoto Super Highway by President Bola Tinubu.
His words, ”Bandits and other bad elements in Nigeria are taking advantage of our bad roads, hence the need to expedite actions on roads constructions."
The Sultan, further, urged President Tinubu to also pay attention to the plight of Nigerians, adding that the welfare of the people should be the top priority of the government.
According to the Sultan, "All road projects are very important but the welfare of Nigerians should equally be considered very seriously, as it is very important for leaders to also see to the welfare of their people.””
Commenting on the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway project, the Sultan further noted that he would personally monitor the project, even as the Sokoto - Zaria Road was equally important to avoid bandits taking advantage of the bad road to kidnap innocent road users.
“Empower the state governors to ensure that the roads that pass through their states are completed in good time.
“”And construction of railways through the length and breath of Nigeria will preserve the lifespan of the roads, adding Sokoto deserve a rail line to other parts of Nigeria," he further added.
