APC Accuses Enugu Govt Of Alleged Suppression Of Crime Incidents In State
The All Progressives Congress, APC, has accused the Enugu State government of suppressing cases of kidnapping and other violent crimes taking place in the state from public knowledge.
The party alleged that the Governor Peter Mbah-led government has failed in its primary duty of protecting lives and property of citizens of the state, adding that even with the technological innovation which the state claims to have employed in combating crimes, was yet to yield dividends.
The APC made the allegation in a communique it issued shortly after an expanded meeting of the stakeholders in Enugu, weekend.
Among those present on the occasion who signed the communique included the Minister for Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji; the state chairman of the party, Ugochukwu Agballa; the APC Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Emma Eneukwu among several others.
The communiqué read in part, "The APC decried rising insecurity in Enugu state especially the killings at Uzo-Uwani and Isi-Uzo local government areas in recent time.
"The leaders condemned the apparent inaction of the state government and it's strenuous efforts to suppress the news of the killings. The party declared that the Peter Mbah-led government has failed in its primary duty of protecting lives and property of citizens of Enugu state.
"They wondered why the state prefers to engage in elaborate deceit of showcasing what they call Command and Control Center that could not resolve security breaches beyond 10 kilometers radius from the capital city, as the huge population of the citizens in the rural areas are left at the mercy of killer herdsmen and other criminals."
The party further noted with regret the incessant kidnappings and killings in other parts of the state especially along Ugwogo-Nike-Opi-Nsukka road, pointing out that
it received over 100 defectors from the PDP and Labour Party during the meeting and urged Ndigbo to continue to support the government of President Bola Tinubu and his reform programmes.
