Former FCT Minister and immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El- Rufai, says that he prefers another southerner to replace President Bola Tinubu in 2027. He did not explain further.
According to El- Rufai, Ribadu was moving against perceived enemies because he, Ribadu, harboured presidential ambition, hence he has started removing any Northerner in the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, suspected to be in competition with him.
The former governor spoke on Arise TV on Monday night, February 24, 2025.
On the alleged lop-sided appointments by President Tinubu in favour of the South-West, he noted that Tinubu was rather favouring his ‘boys’ in appointments and not necessarily the Yoruba.
El- Rufai then cautioned against blaming the entire South-West or the Yoruba race for Tinubu's sins, as the lopsided appointments was being done by the president alone.
His words, “President Tinubu’s appointment are quite imbalance. Don’t blame the South-West for what one individual is doing.
“The president’s appointments are not being made because the appointees are Yoruba, but because they are his own boys, and most of the appointments do not even reasonably cover the South-West.
“So, people should stop confusing the truth. The appointments are not balanced. Yes, definitely, definitely, right? You cannot argue that, but it’s not a Yoruba thing. Please don’t punish the Yoruba as you have been punishing northerners for the sins of the military.
“Let’s focus on individuals and hold them accountable. President Tinubu needs to do something about that. It’s still not too late. He can correct it, but there is palpable anger in the north.”
El- Rufai claimed that Ribadu and himself were formerly friends, adding, “Ribadu is not my friend. We used to be friends.”
