Former Enugu Guber candidate Senator Ayogu Eze, Dies @ 66


Former Senator Simon  Ayogu Eze, has died at the age of 66. 
Born in 1958, Senator Eze, who hailed from Umuida, Enugu Ezike, in Igbo Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State, represented Enugu North Senatorial District in the National  Assembly  between 2007 to 2015.

Senator Eze, a journalist by profession, was one of the top editors in The Guardian, Newswatch Magazine among others before he joined politics as a member of the defunct National Republican Convention, NRC. He served in various capacities as commissioner, Special Adviser to the Governor during the administration of Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo and Dr Chimaroke Nnamsni respectively.

The former senator who was a founding member of the Peopled Democratic Party, PDP reportedly died at the National Hospital, Abuja Hospital after a protracted illnessman 
In the Senate, he was appointed chairman of the senate committee on Information and Media, making him the official spokesman of the senate.
For the eight years he spent in the senate, he was a member of the Constitution Drafting and Amendment Committee that made some novel changes to Nigeria’s 1999 constitution.
After his relection to the senate in 2011, he was appointed chairman of the committee on works. Eze also served as a member of committees on Police Affairs, National Planning, Marine Transport and Federal Character & Inter-Government Affairs.
