FG unbundles Computer Science course in Polytechnics, Monotechnics

... Stops the instructions from offering HND Computer Science from 2024/2025 academic session

The Federal iGovernment has announced the stoppage of Higher National Diploma, HND, course in Computer Science in polytechnics and monotechnics across the country, following the unbundling of the course.
The new specialized areas that have been introduced are: HND Artificial Intelligence, HND Networking and Cloud Computing, HND Software and Web Development, and HND Cybersecurity and Data Protection.
These were contained in a letter signed by the Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE, Prof Idris Bugaje, and addressed to all polytechnics and monotechnics nationwide.
Bugaje noted that the computer science programme in polytechnics and monotechnics will no longer exist, hence there would be no admissions into the HND Computer Science program from the 2024/2025 academic session.
As a result, the NBTE has stated that students who are currently enrolled in the former programmes had been given until 2025 to phase out.
According to the announcement, “admissions from the 2024/2025 academic session into the erstwhile HND Computer Science program will only be in the aforementioned four specialized areas.” The changes have been made in response to emerging trends and the need to prepare graduates for more effective national development.
The NBTE, then  requested that the information be widely circulated and treated accordingly.
