Yellow Fever: Death toll now 133 in Enugu Communities.

Over 75 more people have died of yellow fever scrounge in some communities in Igbo Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State, bringing the total number of those who died to 133.

Fifty eight people were earlier reported to have died in Etteh Ulor and Umuopu communities before the state government medical teams, the World Health Organisation, WHO, the Nigerian Centre for Disease  Control, NCDC, intervened.
Sources told Southeast Post that the 75 new deaths were recorded at Isiugwu, Aji, Okpo, Umuopu and Etteh Ulor among other communities.
About 21 persons died in Isiugwu, while Umuopu recorded 12 new deaths, Etteh Ulor -  eight; while others were recorded at Okpo and Igogoro among others.
The Chairman of Igboeze North Local Government Area, Prince Ejike Itodo was said to have accompanied the health officials who were in Isiugwu for vaccination on Wednesday and directed that all those already infected by disease should be taken to the Enugu Exile General Hospital for proper treatment, adding that he would provide the bus that would take them to the hospital on Thursday.
Itodo confirmed that two people died in his presence in Isiugwu when he went with health officials for vaccinations on Wednesday, saying that the major problem was ignorance on the part of the indigenous people of the area.
"As we are speaking, (Thursday: 9:59am)  two vehicles are stationed in Isiugwu to bring people who have any signs of illness to the General Hospital, which has been mobilised to receive and treat patients suffering from yellow fever or other illnesses but nobody has come out.
"My happiness is that we now have enough vaccines in all the communities and villages in Igboeze North.
"It takes 10 days for the vaccine to start protecting anybody who has been vaccinated. So, anybody who is already infected should go for full treatment, and not for vaccination.
"There is a lot of ignorance. People who have headache will go to quacks instead of going to health clinics or hospitals. In Isiugwu, one of those who died while I was there left the health centre to quack doctor where he died," Ejike told Southeast Post on phone Thursday (26/11/2020).
