National Electricity Grid Collapses For Third Time In One Month

Nigeria’s electricity grid has experienced the third collapse in one month and the sixth time this year.
It was learned that the collapse occurred around 2:42 am on Monday, resulting in a drop in generation to 64.70 megawatts.
Data obtained from a branch of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN,the Independent System Operator, ISO, showed that only one generation company, Ibom Power, was operational during the collapse, bringing the number of collapses experienced this year to six.

As of 8 am on Monday, ISO data indicated that the grid is currently generating 266.50 megawatts of electricity from Okpai, Geregu, and Ibom power plants.
Jos DisCo confirmed the collapse in a statement, attributing the outage within its franchise states to the loss of power supply from the national grid.

The company’s Head of Corporate Affairs,

Dr. Friday Adakole Elijah, expressed optimism for the restoration of the grid to ensure normal power supply to customers.
