Timaya Opens Up On Struggle With Drug Addiction

... Says he’s now free

Nigerian singer, Inetimi Alfred Timaya Odon,  otherwise known as Timaya, has opened up on his struggles  to give up drugs, noting that he got hooked up to
 drugs during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Timaya spoke in an interview with Beats FM,
His words, “I am not a saint. I have done drugs. Breaking off from drugs was hell. It was a tough fight.
“I got introduced to drugs during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020. Everybody was home and there are those young guys in my house who are always so happy. And I was like, ‘Bro, how are you guys happier than me, I am the boss I got money? What are you guys on?’ And they told me that they got Molly.
“When I took it, I did not understand myself. I was so happy that I dashed all the money in my pocket.
“So, I wanted to just keep feeling like that. That was how I lost a lot of weight. I was not eating, I was just happy.

"How you go just want dey happy? You are supposed to, first of all, be happy naturally. But when you now need substance to make you happy, it replaces natural happiness. So you have to be buying happiness.”
 Timaya spoke earnestly about how the fans noted he was doing drugs and advised him to get off it.

“They came to my DMs! My fans came to my DMs saying, ‘This is not the Trillo we know; this is not the bear papa we know’. I was able to look at those and fight. I didn’t go to any rehab.
“When I say I was taking molly, I was taking three pills every day!” the singer reminisced and also warned about the kinds of people “you surround yourself with”.
Timaya admitted picking the bad habit from some of his staff who seemed to ‘look happy’ all the time even though he was wealthier.

According to him, when he now asked what made them seem happier, they showed him the pills which he noted looked more like medication and not a recreational indulgence which really "messed him up."
When asked why he decided to stop, he simply said, “I got kicked out of jobs, contracts, and people I was doing business with didnt want to associate with me anymore…”
He revealed that one of his more recent hits, “Cold Outside” was done when he was working on himself, trying to kick the habit;
“If you watch the ‘Cold Outside’ video; pay close attention, you will see Molly, I had to infuse that in there.
“I almost died because I was not eating, I was not sleeping, I was just ‘vibing’ and ‘happy,'”  he said.
Molly, also known as 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine, is a synthetic substance renowned for its psychedelic characteristics, which can modify mood, perception, and awareness of one’s surroundings and circumstances.
