Police Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner Frank Mba has revealed how detectives rescued a kidnap victim from a septic tank in Owerri, Imo State, where he was left to die for attempting to escape from his abductors.
MBA said that Uchenna Anagbue, 39, was rescued from a septic tank after receiving machete cuts allover his body for attempting to escape from the kidnappers den .
The Police Force Spokesman spoke at police headquarters in Owerri, while briefing newsmen on the arrest of 19 suspected hardened criminals including kidnappers, armed robbers and rapists among others Monday evening.
Anagbue was kidnapped along with others at Maginezum/ Brook West Hotel
axis on June 14, 2019 and later thrown into a soak away tank after inflicting several machete cuts all over his body for attempting to escape.
His words,"You will recall that on the 9th of April 2019, the Inspector – General of Police, IGP, Mohammed Adamu launched Operation “PUFF ADDER” and consequently directed all Assistant Inspectors-General of Police in charge of all zonal commands as well as all commissioners of police in all their states to replicate same in their area of responsibility.
"Today, I am glad to inform you all that the effort is yielding tremendous results.
We have been touring various state commands in the past few months to brief the press on the achievements of the Operation so far. As such, we are here today to showcase to you, the achievements of the officers and men of Imo State Police Command.
"We are however aware that the Commissioner of Police, Imo State, Rabiu Ladodo has briefed and paraded suspects to you on a few occasions since the launch of Operation “PUFF ADDER” but we are here today to present to you some of the exceptional breakthroughs of the command in crime fighting and detection.
"On this note, I present to you a total of 19 suspects involved in various violent crimes as follows: Armed Robbery Suspects,; Irechukwu Edoziem, 25years of Umudibia Umuokomochie Nekede, Owerri West Local Government Area, Imo State:
VICTIM: Nnabuike William Orji,35, of Pioneer Lodge, Umunkoto Nekede, also in Owerri West LGA, Imo State.
One Nokia 6.1 plus phone belonging to the victim.
"The above named suspect was arrested on June 2, 2019, in his hideout at Poly Junction, Naze, Owerri North L.G.A Imo State by operatives of Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the command in connection with the robbery attack on the above named victim and one other on May 21, 2019, at gun point at Pioneer Lodge Umunkoto, Nekede in which assorted types of expensive phones, laptops, plasma television and cash were stolen.
"The suspect has made useful statements confessing to the crime. Victim’s Nokia 6.1 plus phone was also recovered from him.
Arrest of Armed Robbery suspects/ Recovery of firearm:
Suspects: Jubrin Biaro,22, of Tolar, Adamawa State, Edward Ahunze, 19, of Gansa, Adamawa State, Jacob Nwaloba, 31, of Imo State.
Victims: Chikezie Modestus and Chioma Anyanwu, 21.
"Exhibits recovered include one locally made gun and one toy gun.
"Based on the incident report of the armed robbery, cultism and other heinous crimes within and around Naze Industrial Cluster, intensive patrols within the area in conjunction with the local vigilante group led to the arrest of the above mentioned suspects on June 17, 2019, while in possession of a firearm. The suspects broke into the houses of the above named victims and robbed them of several valuable properties before their eventual arrest in the early hours of same day.
"Arrest of Armed Robbery/ kidnap Suspects and Rescue of Kidnap victims:
"SUSPECTS: Emmanuel Sunday, 29, of Oboama Enyiogugu Abo Mbaise LGA, Ms Chinaza Evangel Nwogu, 19, of Obibi Nguru Aboh Mbaise LGA, Emeka Ejike, 47, of Nekede Owerri West LGA, Imo State.
"VICTIMS: Louis Njoku, 88, of Ngali Obibi Nguru, Deborah Chidinma Nganodim, 5, of Umuwe Umuezie Nguru both of Aboh Mbaise LGA, Imo State.
One ash coloured Toyota Sienna car with number AGL 191 DH, belonging to the victim.
"The above named suspects were arrested by operatives of Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the command on June 29, 2019, following a tip-off in connection with the kidnap of the aforesaid victims earlier on May 13, 2019.
"The suspects who specialize in kidnapping within Mbaise and its environs have made useful statements to the police confessing to the crime, narrating the various roles they played in the kidnap operation.
"ARREST OF ARMED ROBBERY/KIDNAP SUSPECT AND RESCUE OF KIDNAP VICTIM
SUSPECT: CHRISTIANA DURU, 58, of Umuahu Ifekala, Mbaitoli LGA, Imo State.
VICTIMS: Chibuike Chisom, 25, of Oleme Amaifeke Orlu LGA, Imo State.
One six rounds of locally made revolver pistol loaded with three .9mm live ammunition, a blanket and a novel belonging to the victim.
"Following the kidnap of the aforementioned victim at Spibath Amakohia Owerri North L.G.A on July 1, 2019 by a four man armed gang and the robbery of the victim’s sky blue Toyota Avalon car with number: GGE 427 EC, a team of Anti-Kidnapping operatives quickly swung into action on July 2, 2019, stormed the kidnappers’ hideout, arrested the above named suspect who kept custody of the victim and subsequently rescued the victim unhurt.
The suspect has made useful statement to the police and is cooperating with the police to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.
"ARREST /DEATH OF KIDNAP SUSPECTS AND RESCUE OF KIDNAPPED VICTIMS:
SUSPECTS: Peter Onuoha, 43, alias Obiakpor of Ihie Ohaji/Egbema LGA L.G.A Imo state, Justice Eke, 23, alias, 'Naza Nazareth' from Imika Ilile, Ohaji/ Egbema LGA of Imo State, Ms Praise Goodluck, 29, of Obubo Awarra from Imika Ilile, Ohaji/Egbema LGA, Imo State, Goodluck Felix, 38, of Umuogwa Awarra, Ohaji/ Egbema LGA, Imo State and three yet to be identified deceased suspects; Stephen Amadi, from Umademi in Ikwere LGA of Rivers State.
"VICTIMS: Nnaka innocent, Chukwuma Ejike, Nwadiuto Nwogu, Ms Nwangwu Chiamaka, 23, Ms Ephraim Chrystel Amadi, 23, Goppreegha Kosi Emmanuel and Udenna Emmanuel, 23.
EXHIBITS: Two single barreled long guns, One double barreled shotgun, two live cartridges, 27 expended cartridges, one machete, an iron saw, one police beret, two sets of police uniforms, a pair of police boot, one police belt and one police handcuff.
"However, the above named kidnap victims held captive in the kidnap hideout as at the time of the incident were all rescued unhurt including a pregnant woman. The rescued victims were subsequently taken to the Police Hospital in Owerri for treatment, the doctor on duty certified that they were all okay and the pregnancy of the said woman was still intact.
ARREST OF KIDNAP SUSPECT/RESCUE OF VICTIMS
SUSPECT: Kelechi Darlington 30, of Ikeduru L.G.A. Imo State
Victims: O,kere Kingsley, 40, Anagbue Uchenna, 39.
"On June 15, 2019, operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad arrested the above named suspect at Umuokanne in Ohaji/Egbema L.G.A of Imo State in connection with the kidnap of the above named victims. Victims were kidnapped along Maginezum/West Brook Hotel on June 14, 2019 and have identified the suspect among the gang that kidnapped them.
"The hospitalized victim Uchenna Anagbue was seriously inflicted with injuries all over his body for attempting to escape from the kidnappers den. After he was recaptured, the kidnapper put him into a septic toilet soak-away and covered it but if not for the quick rescue of the SARS Operatives, he would have died. Effort is on to gear to arrest the remaining suspect at large.
ARREST OF ARMED ROBBERY/KIDNAP SUSPECTS:
"SUSPECTS: Eziara Anselem, 36,
Amuzie Ejike, 25, Egugeo Lemachi, 22.
The above named suspects were arrested on 16/4/2019 by Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in conjuction withOhaji Divisional Personnel at Douglas by Mbaise Road, Owerri in connection with series of kidnap incident along Port Harcourt/Owerri Road, Imo State. They confessed to have kidnapped one Ugochukwu Ahanonu ‘m’ and took him into a bush at Obitti/Egbema LGA, Imo State, where they kept the victim for three days and subsequently released him after a ransom of N100,000. was paid.
"The suspects confessed to several other kidnappings along Port Harcourt/Owerri Road, Imo State.
ARREST OF RAPE/MURDER SUSPECT
SUSPECTS: Chukwuemeka Eze , 25, of Umuorji Mgbidi, Oru West L.G.A Imo state
VICTIM: Lilian Mgbanwa 27, from Delta state

"On July 3, 2019, the above named victim was reported missing. Upon receipt of the report, operatives of Oru West division swung into action and arrested the aforementioned suspects. "On July 5, 2019, one Chukwuemeka Eze, who pretended to be insane took an Andriod phone to the shop belonging to one Ahamefule Onyeka for charging. When he left, the said Ahamefule Onyeka switched the phone on based on the suspicion that the phone must have been stolen as he reasonably believed that the said Chukwuemeka Eze could not possibly own a smart phone.
"Few minutes after switching the phone on, the phone rang, when Ahamefule picked the call, the lady who called asked him to hand over the phone to the owner and he told her that the owner left the phone for charging with him and she insisted claiming that the phone belongs to her sister.
"He put off the phone, picked up the phone and moved to the police station and reported that the said Chukwuemeka Eze brought the phone to charge in his shop and someone else is claiming that the phone belongs to her sister. Upon reception of the report, the DPO led other officers to arrest the said Chukwuemeka Eze.
"Suspect confessed to have raped and murdered the victim. He further led operatives to the scene where they met the decomposing corpse of the deceased, Lilian Mgbanwa.

SUSPECT: Nwabueze Obasi, 24, of Umuelegwa Onicha Ezinihite, Mbaise L.G.A Imo state
EXHIBITS RECOVERED: One locally made gun, wraps of weed suspected to be Indian Hemp
"The above named suspect was arrested at Ezinihitte Mbaise LGA, following a report regarding his nefarious and dubious character. However, upon search of the house/premises of the suspect, one locally made gun and several wraps of weed suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered.
"ARREST OF CHILD TRAFFICKING SUSPECT/RESCUE OF VICTIMS
SUSPECT: Ndubueze Iroakonaulo, 57.
RESCUED VICTIMS: On July 4, 2019, following a tip-off, operatives of the command arrested the above named suspect and rescued four pregnant women at various stages of pregnancy and two children.
"The suspect, who is a specialist in keeping pregnant women, see them through child birth and then subsequently sell the babies, has made useful statements to the police confessing to the crime and her mode of operation.
"SUMMARY OF SUSPECTS ARRESTED AND EXHIBITS RECOVERED
Total number of suspects arrested for:
armed robbery - four; kidnapping 12; Rape/ murder one , Unlawful Possession of firearms - one; child trafficking one, totalling 19.
"Also, 13 kidnap victims were rescued, while arms and ammunition recovered totalled five."
Others included "one police beret, two sets of police uniform, a pair of police boot, one police belt, one police handcuff, one ash coloured Toyota Sienna car with number AGL 191 DH, one motorcycle, one Nokia 6.1 plus phone and one black android Itel phone."
They also included "one toy gun, a blanket and a novel, one head tie, one machete, an iron saw and several wraps of weed suspected to be Indian hemp."
