Police Arrest Suspected Kidnappers in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Headquarters has announced the arrest of a suspected member of a child trafficking gang. The arrest was confirmed by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Director of Public Relations, in a statement issued on Wednesday in Onitsha.

According to Ikenga, the gang specializes in trafficking children aged 13 to 16 to neighboring countries such as Ghana and the Benin Republic. The arrests followed directives from the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam, in response to numerous reports of missing persons, particularly in the Okpoko area of Onitsha.

Ikenga reported that the police intervention was initiated to halt the trafficking operations. A victim who recently returned to Nigeria from Ghana has provided crucial information about the situation. The suspect is currently being interrogated at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka. The ongoing investigation aims to rescue more victims and apprehend additional gang members.
