Petit Criticizes Arteta’s Decision to Sign Raheem Sterling for Arsenal
Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit disapproves of Mikel Arteta’s decision to bring Raheem Sterling to the Emirates on a season-long loan from Chelsea, expressing his concerns about the move.
Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit has expressed his disapproval of Mikel Arteta’s decision to bring Raheem Sterling to the Emirates Stadium this summer. Petit, a former Gunners star, made it clear that he does not agree with the move, which saw the English winger join Arsenal on a season-long loan from Chelsea on transfer deadline day.
Sterling’s departure from Stamford Bridge came after Chelsea’s new manager, Enzo Maresca, informed the player that he was not part of his plans for the season. With time running out on transfer deadline day, Sterling seized the opportunity to move to north London.
Despite Sterling’s impressive track record, which includes 123 goals in 379 Premier League appearances and four league titles with Liverpool and Manchester City, Petit remains unconvinced. He questioned whether Sterling would be a valuable addition to Arteta’s squad.
“No, Arsenal should not sign Sterling,” Petit told SafeCasino. “Since leaving Liverpool, Sterling hasn’t really progressed, whether at Manchester City or Chelsea. He can play a big role, but his performances are inconsistent.”
Petit pointed out that Sterling’s biggest challenge is improving his final ball ability and scoring more goals—issues that have hindered his success. “This is something that Mikel Arteta does not want to happen to his team. He wants young and hungry players, and Sterling is not better than the other young players in the squad,” Petit added.
The former French international’s comments highlight a growing debate among Arsenal fans and pundits about whether Sterling’s signing aligns with the club’s long-term strategy under Arteta.
