PDP slams Atiku's 2027 presidential ambitions, says 'You can't decide for us'

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked  former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to drop his ambition to run for the presidency in 2027, allowing the party to decide on its best candidate in due course. . The statement by the party came amid reports that Atiku said he would conduct the upcoming elections on the basis of the party. Atiku made the comments in response to the Democratic Party's campaign calling for former President Goodluck Jonathan to become president in 2027.  However, responding to Atiku's statement, the party's Deputy National Secretary Ibrahim Abdullahi reminded the former Vice President that  He has run for president several times, and says it's time to give up his ambitions and let the party decide his path. Abdullahi said Atiku cannot run things alone, adding that the Peoples Democratic Party is a national party. He said the former vice president cannot decide which party will stand in the 2027 presidential election.
The leader of the Peoples Democratic Party acknowledged that Atiku is capable of running for the presidency but he thinks it is time to support someone else, especially if the odds are in favor of that person, he believes. Goodluck Jonathan in 2027.  He praised Jonathan's past achievements as president, including stabilizing foreign exchange and achieving single digit growth, adding that citizens like Jonathan need to revive the countries from current trends that cross party lines.   Abdullahi's statement read in part:   “This is not Atiku's place to make decisions for the Peoples Democratic Party. We run a national team, we dare say, a team that has been running this country for 16 years. We cannot expect only one person to determine the direction of the group.
The APC and the PDP have different views on the call of former President Goodluck Jonathan to run for  president  in the year 2027.  While the PDP supported the call and praised Governor Bala Mohammed for taking the lead, the APC said it was too early to start talking about the 2027 elections. According to  APC, the PDP  only supported the call to be relevant in the national politics, saying the party would defeat the 10-time former president.
