NNPC Fuel Price Hike: NLC Demands Immediate Reversal

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has called for the “immediate restoration” of petrol prices across the country, following the recent hike announced by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL).

“We are demanding an immediate reversal of the rise in PMS across the country,” the NLC stated.

This demand comes after NNPCL increased the official price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from N617 to N897 per litre, a move that has sparked widespread concern and backlash. The NLC’s Chairman, Joe Ajaero, expressed his dissatisfaction with the hike, especially since the recent agreement on a minimum wage of N70,000 was reached under the assumption that fuel prices would remain stable.

Ajaero warned that in the coming days, the union will convene a meeting with relevant stakeholders to deliberate on the situation and take appropriate actions. The NLC’s strong stance suggests that further industrial actions or protests could be on the horizon if their demands are not met.
