Leaders and members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) gathered at their headquarters in Abuja to show solidarity with NLC Chairman Joe Ajaero, who has been summoned by the police on allegations of extortion and other charges. According to Naija News, Ajaero is expected to report to the police station before 10 a.m. today.

In response to the police summons, the NLC organized a show of support, with members assembling at the NLC headquarters from 8 a.m. The area around the National Library, located a short distance from the headquarters, has seen a heavy police presence to maintain order.

Ajaero, who is scheduled to meet with the police on Thursday, August 29, cited previous engagements as the reason for the delay in his response. The NLC Secretary General, Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja, issued a circular urging all state branches to mobilize for a peaceful march to the police headquarters for a prayer meeting.

The police have summoned Ajaero to answer questions regarding alleged involvement in terrorist financing, among other issues. In response, the NLC has expressed its commitment to stand in solidarity with Ajaero, condemning what they see as an attempt to intimidate union leaders and workers across Nigeria.
