Nigerian Government Urges Doctors to End Strike Amid Rising Concerns

The Federal Government has called on the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) to end their ongoing strike. Minister of State for Labor and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, made the appeal during a meeting with NARD leaders in Abuja. She emphasized that the government is working to address the group’s concerns.

Southeast Post recalls that the strike was initiated in response to the abduction of NARD members, particularly Dr. Popoola Ganiyat, who was kidnapped eight months ago. Patience Onuobia, Head of Press and Public Relations, stated that the government is committed to addressing the issues and improving security for healthcare workers.

Onyejeocha urged the doctors to consider the impact of their strike on patient care, noting the potential risks to lives due to the lack of medical services. She assured that President Bola Tinubu is actively involved in addressing the situation and enhancing security measures for hospital facilities.
