Nigerian Government Policies Becoming Inhumane, Says Pastor Yemi Davis

Pastor Yemi Davis, President of the Lagos State chapter of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, has criticized recent policies implemented by the Nigerian government, describing them as increasingly inhumane. During an interview on Arise TV on Wednesday, Davis expressed concern over the impact of these policies on the church and society at large.

He highlighted that the removal of oil subsidies, along with other newly introduced policies, has placed a significant strain on churches, particularly in their efforts to support their congregants. “We are already struggling with electricity bills, and food prices have skyrocketed,” Davis remarked. “As a church, there is immense pressure. Our welfare system is weak, and we don’t always discuss it, but a lot of money is spent every week to feed people.”

Davis called on the government to show compassion and consider the well-being of its citizens when crafting and implementing policies. He noted that the recent measures have created a sense of disconnect between the government and the people, with many feeling that the policies are driven by a negative attitude toward society.

“The government should approach policy-making with a humane perspective,” Davis urged. “There needs to be proper communication and timing when decisions that affect people’s lives are being made. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case right now.”

Pastor Davis emphasized the importance of empathy in leadership and urged the government to reassess its approach to policy-making to better align with the needs and struggles of the Nigerian people.
