Health Care in Nigeria is in Crisis - Vice President Shettima
Vice President Kashim Shettima admits to the ongoing crisis in Nigeria’s healthcare sector, urging unity to address the challenges despite efforts to attract $4.8 billion in investment.
Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has acknowledged the ongoing crisis in the country’s healthcare sector, despite efforts to attract $4.8 billion in investment. Speaking at the inauguration of the Sahad Medical Center in Abuja, Shettima urged Nigerians to unite in addressing the challenges facing the health sector to prevent its total collapse.
“Our health rights call us all to be one,” Shettima stated, emphasizing the need for collective action. He also reiterated the government’s commitment to reviving the healthcare system amid the current difficulties.
Despite a 2.41% increase in the health sector’s contribution to the GDP, as reported by the National Bureau of Statistics, this growth has not translated into improved healthcare services for the majority of Nigerians, who continue to struggle with high medication costs. However, experts are optimistic that recent regulatory orders for free pharmaceuticals may help alleviate the financial burden on Nigerian citizens.
