The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the arrest of 48 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud in Umudike, Abia State. The operation was conducted by the Uyo Zonal Directorate of the anti-corruption agency, following intelligence reports.

According to a statement released by Dele Oyewale, the Head of Media and Publicity for the EFCC, the suspects were apprehended on Friday, August 30, 2024, at various locations within Umudike. The arrests were made based on actionable intelligence indicating their alleged involvement in fraudulent online activities.

The EFCC recovered a significant number of items during the operation, including 12 exotic cars, 15 different brands of laptops, and 68 expensive smartphones. The agency has confirmed that the suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are completed.
