Dangote: Our Fuel Will Eliminate Queues, Stabilize the Naira, and Improve Health
Aliko Dangote discusses the positive impacts of PMS from the newly launched Dangote Refinery on Nigeria’s economy and public health, aiming to ease fuel shortages.
Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, has outlined the numerous benefits that the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) produced at the newly launched Dangote Refinery will bring to Nigeria. Speaking in an interview with Channels Television on Tuesday, Dangote emphasized that the refined petrol will not only ease fuel shortages but also have significant positive impacts on the nation’s economy and public health.
Dangote announced that the petrol, produced at the refinery with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, will be available in the Nigerian market within 48 hours under the management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL). He highlighted that this development will lead to the elimination of fuel queues, a persistent issue in Nigeria for decades.
“You can watch some video footage from 1974 where we lined up to get gas. The gas line still exists today,” Dangote noted, reflecting on the longstanding problem of fuel scarcity in the country. He expressed gratitude to the Nigerian people and the government of President Bola Tinubu for their support in reaching this milestone.
According to Dangote, the consistent availability of locally refined fuel will improve public health by reducing the environmental and economic stress caused by fuel shortages. Moreover, he believes that the stabilization of fuel supply will help correct distortions in the Naira’s value, leading to broader economic growth and development.
“The Dangote oil refinery will eliminate all fuel lines in Nigeria, improving the health of all and ensuring a steady supply to the market,” Dangote stated. He added, “This creates real demand for PMS. There is no speculation. This will correct the distortion and instability of the Naira and bring about growth, development, and prosperity.”
With the commencement of operations at the Dangote Refinery, the billionaire industrialist envisions a future where Nigeria’s fuel supply issues are a thing of the past, paving the way for a healthier and more stable economy.
