The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has described the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Chief Olukayode Ariwoola, as a man of integrity, intelligence, and ability. The Minister stated that Olukayode Ariwoola’s legacy will be enshrined in the annals of Nigerian history, emphasizing that the journey of the eminent judge, from lawyer to Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, is one marked by endurance, brilliance, and determination to uphold justice.

Wike noted that Ariwoola’s contributions have not only upheld the rule of law in Nigeria but have also strengthened the principles of democracy and human rights. He added that the Chief Justice’s remarkable journey is a testament to his passion, perseverance, and unwavering commitment to the principles that define Nigeria’s legal system.

“In a diverse and dynamic country like Nigeria, the judiciary plays an essential role in maintaining balance and ensuring justice,” Wike said. “The role of the Chief Justice is not just to interpret the law but also to uphold justice and ensure that the scales of justice remain balanced.”

Wike made these remarks on Thursday in Abuja during the public launch of Chief Olukayode Ariwoola’s autobiography titled Justice. He praised Ariwoola for his profound impact on the Nigerian judiciary, particularly in shaping legal opinions and improving the working conditions of judges.

According to Wike, Chief Justice Ariwoola’s efforts have led to a 300 percent increase in judges’ salaries, a move aimed at ensuring the independence of the judiciary. “Chief Justice Ariwoola has significantly improved the judiciary through his dedication to enhancing the lives and working conditions of judges,” he said. “This is a notable achievement that underscores his commitment to ensuring an independent, resourceful, and robust judiciary.”

Furthermore, Wike highlighted Ariwoola’s commitment to providing adequate accommodation for judges at all levels of the judiciary, including residents of the Court of Appeal, the Federal High Court, and the FCT High Court.
