The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has successfully raided a crime scene in Uyo, resulting in the arrest of two suspected drug dealers and the recovery of multiple firearms. The operation took place on Ring Road 3, Uyo, on Saturday, according to a statement released by the police spokesperson, ASP Timfon John, on Sunday.

The arrested suspects are identified as Feziechukwu Kizito Okolie from Abia-Omuma in Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State, and Udeme Francis Daniel from Iwor Etor in Etin South Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. Among the items recovered from the suspects were a nitro air rifle with a detachable scope, an American Sig Sauer pistol, a Japanese Powerline pistol, an American Phantom pistol, a firearm with two magazines, and a black bag containing ten rounds of 9mm bullets. Additionally, the police found a black holster, two leather gloves, and three bags of substances suspected to be marijuana.

ASP Timfon John confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody, and the investigation is ongoing. The suspects will be charged in court once the investigation is complete.

In a related operation on Thursday, August 29, 2024, the police also recovered arms and ammunition from suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) during an intensive investigation along Stadium Road in Abiakpo Edem Inyang Village, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area. During this operation, the police intercepted a Lexus Jeep with registration number KUJ 886 FF. Upon noticing the police, two unidentified youths fled into the nearby forest.

The police search of the vehicle uncovered an AK-47 rifle with eight rounds of 8mm bullets, a locally made pistol, a bullet, four different vehicle plates, ATM cards from Zenith and Access Bank, a country SIM card, black clothing, a bag containing substances suspected to be marijuana, and a lighter.

Despite extensive searches with the help of local villagers, the suspects who fled into the forest remain at large. The police continue to pursue the suspects and their associates.

The police command has urged residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities or unfamiliar individuals to the authorities immediately.
