The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has appointed German tactician Bruno Labbadia as the new head coach of the Super Eagles. This decision was made following the recommendation of the NFF’s Technical and Development Sub-Committee, and the appointment has been approved by the Executive Committee of the NFF. The appointment is effective immediately.

Labbadia, who has coached renowned clubs such as Hertha Berlin and VfB Stuttgart in the last decade, as well as VfL Wolfsburg, Hamburger SV, and Bayer Leverkusen, brings a wealth of experience to the role. He also holds a UEFA Pro License, highlighting his credentials.

Labbadia becomes the sixth German to take charge of the Super Eagles, following predecessors Karl-Heinz Marotzke, Gottlieb Göller, Manfred Höner, Berti Vogts, and Gernot Rohr. His immediate challenge will be to lead the Super Eagles in two 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Benin Republic on September 7th in Uyo and Rwanda on September 10th in Kigali, with additional qualifiers scheduled for October and November.
