Investigative journalist Adejuwon Soyinka, the Regional Editor of The Conversation Africa,  was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS) at Muritala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos early Sunday morning. The incident occurred shortly after Soyinka arrived from the United Kingdom on a Virgin Atlantic flight.

According to a close friend, who shared the news with the media, Soyinka was detained around 5:40 am on August 25, 2024. The reasons behind his arrest remain unclear, and the journalist has been unreachable since the incident, with calls and messages going unanswered.

When contacted, DSS spokesperson Peter Afunanya stated that he was unaware of the arrest, offering no further details. The situation has sparked concern among colleagues and human rights advocates, who are closely monitoring developments.
