Abia State Approves Upgrade of Public Hospital and Diagnostic Center

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has approved the upgrade of the Amachala General Hospital and the Abia Diagnostic Center, aiming to enhance the quality of medical services provided in the state. The announcement was made by the State Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, during a press briefing on Monday, following the weekly executive committee meeting chaired by the governor.
The upgrades at the Amachala General Hospital will focus on expanding and improving services in Internal Medicine, Nephrology, Cardiology, Peripheral Services, General Surgery, Internal and Spinal Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Eye Health. The Abia Diagnostic Center will be equipped to offer comprehensive diagnostic services. Commissioner Kanu also revealed that the state government has approved the recruitment of highly qualified specialists to ensure that the hospital and diagnostic center can deliver top-tier healthcare services.
Additionally, the state executive committee has approved significant improvements to water infrastructure and the construction of ultra-modern areas in three zones of Abia to address open defecation issues. The government has also greenlit the construction of a 41.4-kilometer road in the Ohafia area, with the goal of enhancing connectivity across the state, benefiting farmers and easing traffic flow.
As Abia State marked its 33rd anniversary on Sunday, Kanu noted that the celebrations were kept low-key, emphasizing a peaceful and reflective observance of the day.
