Domestic violence: Police arrest suspended Anambra LG chair

The police have arrested the suspended Transition Committee Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Mbazulike Iloka, whose wife, Chidiebere, died in controversial circumstances few days ago.

State Governor and former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Charles Soludo, suspended Mbazulike, last Friday, shortly after Chidiebere's death following reports that there were bruises on the body of the deceased, signifying that her death was not natural.

However, the suspended chairman was arrested by the Anambra State Police Command, shortly after his suspension by the state government.
Iloka was suspended by the state government, pending the conclusion of investigation into the alleged murder and to avoid any interference.
Sources had told reporters that the embattled local government chairman, also known as Mba Mba is currently being detained at the State Criminal Investigation and I formation  Department, CIID, Awka, Anambra State, over alleged culpable homicide.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed Iloka's arrest to reporters on Wednesday.
Ikenga, however, called for caution from the public, saying that the case was being investigated as an autopsy would prove the cause of his wife’s death.
“He is in our custody now and we urge the members of the public to be patient as the autopsy shall prove the cause of the wife’s death. Meanwhile, investigation is still ongoing please,” Ikenga added.
It was gathered that Iloka's arrest was consequent upon a petition by the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, on Monday, addressed to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP,  Usman Alkali Baba.

HURIWA reportedly dragged the suspended council boss to IGP Baba over issues bordering on domestic violence, even as
Mba Mba had claimed that the deceased slumped and died while serving him food.
