Late Patrick Omeje.

The Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Council, Chief Patrick Omeje is said to have died last night, June 16, 2020. He reportedly died of pneumonia.
The Secretary to Nsukka Local Government, SLG, Damian Eze, confirmed the death of his council boss saying he died of heart complications on Monday at an undisclosed hospital in Enugu metropolis.
Eze who spoke on telephone described the incident as shocking and sad, adding that the development has thrown the council area into mourning.
Omeje was re-elected into office for the second tenure during the February 29 local government election in the state.
Omeje was said to have taken I'll some few weeks ago and taken to the hospital where he was diagnosed of pneumonia.
This was even as his political god- father, Senator Fidelis Okoro who died about two months ago in Abuja is yet to be buried.
The former Chairman popularly known as "Atikpa or Aka- Ekpuchi Onwa" was elected for his second term in office about three months ago against opposition from majority of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, supporters in Nsukka, who alleged poor performance in his first term and called for his removal as a sole candidate of the party.
The youths in Nsukka had marched the streets of Nsukka to the local government headwaters and lodged complaints to the transition committee chairman Hon. Chnwe Ugwu who pleaded with them to be calm as the election was never a do or die affair, adding the council has noted their grievances and would channel it to the appropriate authority.
The protesting youths called names to Chief Omeje as he allegedly achieved zero in terms infrastructural and human capital development, employed about 1000 political appointees without payments while other local government workers gnashed their teeth in total frustration.
Their placards read then, ”we don’t want Omeje again, ” No to high handed ness, ” Omeje account for your stewardship in two years” among others.
