Nigerian Army Buries Captain, 11 Soldiers Killed By Bandits In Benue


The Nigerian Army on Monday buried 12 soldiers including a Captain, Adeola Adedayo, who were killed by bandits in Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State.

The Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom led a delegation of the Benue State government to the funeral to commiserate with the families, military authorities, and the Federal Government.

Bereaved family members, colleagues, and senior officers of the 72 battalion Makurdi led by the Commander, Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Adeyemi Yekini as well as the Commander, 4 Special Forces Doma, Brigadier General L.G Lepbung attended the burial ceremony at the military cemetery in Wurukum, Makurdi to bid farewell to the fallen heroes.

At the different funeral service offered by the Chaplain of Protestant 401 Special Forces Brigade, Major Ibrahim Mavisky, and the Imam of the same Brigade, Captain Aliyu Bashir, the dead soldiers were described as peacemakers by those who paid special tributes to them.

There was a general salute to the fallen heroes with 21 gunshots and the presentation of military attires and the national flag to the next of kin of the deceased soldiers and officers.

The burial ceremony was held at the military cemetery in Wurukum, Makurdi the state capital.

A booklet showing the names and other details of the fallen heroes was displayed at the burial.

Governor Ortom condemned the brutal killing, of the soldiers, promising to corporate with the military to ensure the arrest and prosecution of those involved in the killing, just as also condemned the action of civilians taking up arms against security forces.

The soldiers were killed on April 6, 2021, by bandits while on a routine operational task to maintain peace in the troubled region of Konshisha and Oju Local Government Areas of the state.

The military had reported that its troops came under attack while on a routine operational task in the area.
