Joy for Tottenham as three big reasons are revealed for Harry Kane stay

Harry Kane will quite likely snub all interest from big-name suitors to stay at Tottenham this summer, according to pundit Steve McManaman.

Kane has spent his entire professional career with Tottenham, only leaving for a few loan spells earlier in his career. He has been their most important player for a number of years. Sadly, he does not have a trophy to reflect that – which has led to him considering his future.

The England captain has previously warned Spurs that he won’t just stay with them for the sake of it if they are not matching his ambition.

Turning 28 before the start of next season, time is probably running out if Kane wants to move to a European giant. He is obviously still in the prime of his career, but if he wants to spend that at an elite club, he will have a decision to make.

Kane has been linked with Premier League rivals Manchester City and Manchester United. There is also long-standing interest from La Liga, where Barcelona have joined Real Madrid in the hunt.

Perhaps the strongest interest comes from Manchester City. With the iconic Sergio Aguero to replace, they’re in need of another No 9. Pep Guardiola has done his best to play down talk of a big splash, however.

Kane though has done little to deny rumours of an exit. He recently admitted he would review his club future after England’s Euro 2020 campaign ends in the summer.

However, McManaman, speaking to horseracing.net, is adamant that Kane won’t be lured away. That’s because he feels, despite a lack of trophies, Kane is settled and happy with Spurs. Furthermore, McManaman says that family man Kane won’t want to move his wife and young family away from lives in the south.

“The simple answer is, it’s easy to say ‘You need to leave Spurs because you need to be successful and win trophies’. Tottenham want to be successful but it’s hard in the Premier League. Especially when you’ve got Liverpool, Chelsea, and City knocking around,” McManaman said.

“Of course that’s difficult. But the main thing for Harry Kane, for me, is for him to be happy. If he’s happy and scoring goals and being a legend and wants to stay at Tottenham, so be it.

“It doesn’t matter what team he goes to play for, he’ll always be wealthy enough and well-rewarded because he’s a super player.

“He’s got a young family, his wife and children might be happy where he is. They might have a family immediately close to them where they’re all happy, the children might be in happy schools. That’s the important thing.

“Of course, in an ideal world, he’ll want to be successful too. But if he moves to Manchester, if he moves to Madrid and you’re unhappy, and your wife’s unhappy, your children are unhappy, it makes a mockery of your decision. As long as he’s happy, he’s going to be a superstar wherever he plays.

“If he wants to win trophies, of course, the team who wins the most trophies at the moment is Manchester City. That would be an easy decision. But people get carried away with all this ‘He needs to win trophies to be a great player.’ He doesn’t, he’s a great player anyway.

“He’s going to be remembered as one of the best. Look at Alan Shearer. People talk about the lack of trophies he didn’t win but no one can tell me Alan Shearer isn’t an absolute superstar, not an absolute hero at Newcastle. And Harry Kane will be the same if he stays at Tottenham.”

Kane an ‘incredible centre forward’

McManaman feels Kane, quite rightly, deserves to be regarded in the highest echelons of modern strikers.

He also feels, like the much-coveted Erling Haaland, clubs would snap him up in a heartbeat.

“Likewise if he wants to move and he feels as if he needs to win trophies, that’s his decision and one that he’ll live and die by.

“He’s an incredible centre-forward. I think if you’re a club and you’re going to buy one at the moment, you go and buy Harry Kane in a heartbeat. You know that if he goes and plays for somebody else, he’ll still go and score 30 goals next year.

“I think Erling Haaland is certainly one for the future because he’s only a young boy. He hasn’t played in the Premier League before, he’s still adjusting, he’s still getting better and he’s still improving. Harry Kane is the finished article.”
