Obaseki pays 'thank you' visit to Buhari, says it will be immoral to return to APC


Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State on Friday met with the President, Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja to thank him his neutrality which led to a peaceful governorship election in the state last Saturday.

The governor however told State House correspondents at the end of the visit that it would be immoral for him to return to the All Progressives Congress, APC, which he left and joined the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. 

His former party disqualified him and from contesting the primaries to enable him contest election for his second term in office following the endorsement of Pastor Osagie Ize -Iyamu by the former National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole.

Obaseki and his PDP later trounced Osagie Ize-Iyamu of Buhari’s APC and others to win the last Saturday’s governorship election in his state.

There had been speculations that having won the election on the platform of the PDP, he might return to the APC.

But after meeting President Buhari alongside his deputy, Philip Shuaibu, Obaseki said it would be immoral to return to APC.

Obaseki and Shuaibu were joined on what they called a “thank you visit” to Buhari by their wives and some lawmakers from the state.
