Nsukka--------The former Provost of the Nigerian Air Force, NAF, Institute of Technology, Kacuna, Prof Emma Ezugwu is dead.
Ezugwu, now a consultant to the National Universities Commission, NUC, died in his sleep at Abuja Wednesday night.
He hailed from Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State.
He is the sixth top leaders of the local government who have died in the last few months.
Those who died before him included Senator Fidelis Okoro, Justice Fidelis Ngwu and the former chairmen of the local government including Ejike Asadu, Atukpa Patrick Omeje, jnr, and Chinwe Ugwu and her mother, Theresa, who were buried same day few days ago. Chinwe was the interim chairman who handed over to Patrick Omeje after the local government elections early this year among other prominent fellows.
Ezugwu was a lecturer in Britain before he was invited by NAF to start it's school of technology in Kaduna. He championed the construction of the first unmanned aircraft (drone) by the school, which was commissioned by former President Goodluck Jonathan during his tenure.
Sources told Southeast Post that Ezugwu went to work on Wednesday and came home "hail and hearty."
Ezugwu's wife was said to have travelled to the United Kingdom on Thursday morning, not knowing that her husband was dead.
Close relations said that his wife repeatedly knocked on her husband's door before her departure to the airport without any response and concluded that he was in deep slumber as usual, not knowing that he had given up the ghost.
His cousin and Secretary General of CNPP, Chief Willy Ezugwu said he spoke with his brother at about 1pm on Wednesday, not knowing that it would be the last time both of them would speak.
