Former Council boss, Chinwe Ugwu, Mother, Tessy buried amid tears, eulogies


NSUKKA--------The bodies of the former caretaker committee chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area, Ms Chinwe Ugwu, and her mother, Tessy Ugwu, have laid to rest at their country home, Ugwu na Agbo Edem amid tears and eulogies.

 

Chinese died on June 4, 2020, after handing over to late Patrick Omeje jnr, who died about two months before  her own death. 

Also, her aged mother who could  not withstand the shock of her daughter and breadwinner, died few weeks after her daughter's demise.

In his homily during their burial mass at St Theresa Catholic Parish Ugwu na Agbo Edem,  the officiating priest Rev. Fr. Taddus Ezema described the duo as beautiful souls who impacted positively on the lives of many.

Ezema said, "Death happens according to the wish of God, the most important thing is how you spent your life while on earth.

"Chinwe and the mother were beautiful souls and they impacted positively on the lives of the people while alive."

The Catholic Priest told the congregation that it was not how many years one lived on earth that mattered, but ones good relationship with God and fellow human beings. 

He then commiserated with "The Ugwu family," and asked them "to take solace in the promise of resurrection and and pray for the repose of their souls."

Earlier, the remains of the late council boss was taken to Nsukka Local Government headquarters where workers paid their last respect to her.

In his comments during the ceremony, the incumbent chairman of the council, Cosmas Ugwueze described Chinwe as an astute politician who served the council for three months and delivered to the acceptance of the general public both in resources and human capital development.

He said she lived an exemplary life as a woman in politics from Nsukka West constituency, Ovogovo and the state in general, adding that her legacies in the council within her short stay in office would remain indelible in the minds Enugu North Senatorial zone of the state.

Others were Senator Chukwuka Utazi representing Enugu North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, past council chairmen, members of the ruling People Democratic Party, PDP, among others.

They also included Hon. Celestine Ezechinedu,  Leader Nsukka Legislative Council, Hon. Onyema Idoko, former Nsukka transition chairman.

Chinwe was appointed the transition chairman of Nsukka council on Dec 16, 2019 by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and she served for three months and handed  over to late Chief Patrick Omeje, who died on the saddle.
