Rights Group petitions NAFDAC over alleged sale of spoilt liquid Peak Milk


 

The Civil Rights Realisation and Advancement Network, CRRAN, has petitioned the National. Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control, NAFDAC, over the alleged continued supply of spoilt and coagulated liquid peak milk brand to the Southeast region in the country.

The petition titled "Appeal for urgent intervention: Re: Complaints of continuous supply of spilt and coagulated liquid Peak tin milk to Southeast Market by FrieslandCapina WAMCO Nigeria Plc, Lagos," was signed by the President of CRRAN, Mr Olu Omotayo.  

The statement read, "We write to you in respect of the above-mentioned in view of complaints of some citizens that on number of occasions liquid peak milk they purchased in the open market turned out to be spoilt and not good for human consumption. 

"Sometimes in December 2022, we wrote a letter to the Managing Director, FrieslandCapina WAMCO Nigeria Plc, Lagos, on the complaints we received from a particular citizen on the spoilt peak liquid milk being sold to the markets in southeast Nigeria but we got no response.

"We submit that it be criminal negligence for the company to be rolling out spoilt milk for sale to the public which may pose serious hazards to their health.

"We submit that companies producing consumables  owes the public a duty of care to ensure that what is supplied to the market for consumption is not harmful to the health of the populace.

"We opened two of the tins to confirmed the complaints but now decided that as your Agency is charged with regulating consumable products in Nigeria.

"We are therefore, seeking a date to come and handover one of the Email sealed tins of the liquid Peak Milk to you so that you perform the necessary examination with a view to save the the citizens from health hazards, that this dangerous products might cause."
