Catholic Church Begins New Liturgical Year

The Catholic Church began its new Liturgical Year on Sunday, November 27, 2022, wishing it's numerous members a happy new year.

The new year (Year A), being the first Sunday of Advent marks the journey towards the birth of Jesus Christ on December 25.

Marking the event at St Francis Out- Station of St Joseph's Catholic Parish, Imufu, Enugu Ezike, Rev Fr Chidera Ugwu, who celebrated the Holy Mass, urged the congregation to love their neighbours as they love themselves, saying that lack of love was central to the problems besetting the society.

The First Reading was taken from the Book of Isaiah Chapter 2 (1-5) which states that "The Lord gathers all nations together into the eternal peace of God's Kingdom," while the "Second Reading," was taken from the Romans 13 (11-14) being A letter of St Paul to the Romans just as the Gospel was taken from the Book of Matthew 24 (37- 44).

The Gospel urged Christians to stay awake so that, they maybe ready. "As it was in Noah's day, so will it be when the Son of Man comes. For in those days, before the Flood, people were eating, drinking, taking wives, taking husbands, right up to the day Noah went into the Ark and they suspected nothing till the Flood came and swept all away ..."

Ugwu, then urged the congregation to remain vigilant by avoiding all the bad things that could lead them to hell on the judgement day.
